5 Recipes You Can Make with Freshly Milled Wheat Berries

I think everyone would agree that milling your own flour is way cooler than buying it at the supermarket. Being in control of what goes into the foods you make is immensely beneficial for your health and a fun activity to take your baking to the next level.

Did you know that you can mill wheat berries into your own flour? The flour that is milled can then be made into a variety of foods. Milling can be done through a blender, food processor, or an actual milling device. Most people already have blenders in their kitchen cabinets, so grinding grain can be no additional cost. My favorite blender is the Blentec Total Blender Classic, which is linked above. It has almost made 1,000 smoothies so far in my household (it keeps track) and is still going strong. It can for sure handle grinding wheat berries into flour!

Once you mill your wheat berries into grain, it's best to keep your flour in a cool, dry place. Something along the lines of a glass mason jar should do the trick. This product looks like it would do the job while being aesthetically pleasing if you have a kitchen with open shelving! Now that you have your flour, you can try out recipes that use flour in the ingredients. Be sure to keep an eye out for whole grain/wheat recipes since your newly milled grain will be whole wheat! Here are some solid recipes to get you thinking:

1. Sourdough bread - Of course sourdough needed to make it on this list! Making sourdough batches can be easy and beats out store bought bread any day.

2. Chocolate Chip cookies - Check out this whole wheat version recipe of a fan-favorite cookie.

3. Pancakes - Pancake batter can be made into waffles as well :) Your pick

4. Tortillas - Tortillas can be made at home! How cool is that?

5. Pizza dough - You can make your own customizable pizza with your preferred toppings.
